The Darlington Flag Newsletter

Death Notices From the Pageland Journal of Chesterfield County, SC, 1910 – 1935, extracted and published by James C. Pigg and Julie H. Pigg.  Do Jim and Julie Pigg ever tire of publishing Chesterfield County materials?  Let’s hope not!  Researchers in Chesterfield soon encounter the destruction of county records caused by General Sherman and his troops during THE WAR.  Jim and Julie Pigg have mounted a significant counter attack with a series of books concerning Chesterfield County.  Their latest work continues to fill in the gaps left by Sherman’s wake.  This book contains all the obituaries published by the Pageland Progressive Journal (and its predecessors) between 1910 and 1935.  Almost every obituary contains references to the 19th century.  What researcher cannot find plenty to feast on in the following obituary:

July 12, 1916- Mrs. Nancy Adams died Friday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Frank Wallace.  She was 83 years old.  The body was buried at Beulah Church Saturday.  Mrs. Adams was a sister of Mrs. Polly Threatt, Mrs. Sally Yarborough, and the late Dr. T. Threatt.
