DESCENDANTS OF HARDY SELLERS
DESCENDANTS OF HARDY SELLERS: BORN MARCH 2, 1757 IN JOHNSTON COUNTY, NC, DIED JANUARY 12, 1835 IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, SC, compiled by James C. Pigg. It goes without saying that this is one of the most eagerly anticipated books from James C. Pigg. The progenitor, Hardy Sellers, left a host of descendants scattered throughout the Chesterfield County, SC - Anson County, NC region. Pigg acknowledges the assistance he received from the late Marie Gulledge Wiggins on this line. The contributions of Wiggins are noted within the text. Pigg also notes that he has been unable to tie in the family of Matthew Sellers, and his descendants Levi and McCarroll Sellers, with the Hardy Sellers family. Thus this current work only addresses the Hardy Sellers line. Hardy Sellers lived in the vicinity of Chesterfield County during the Revolutionary War. He served sixteen months during the war. Sellers married twice. His first wife was Mary Cook, the daughter of Abram and Feed Maston Cook. Seven children were born to this couple: John (married Henrietta Norwood), Abraham (married Mary Norwood), Phillip (married Mary ___?___), Richard, Mary R., Phoebe (married Jeremiah Gulledge), and Jane (married Iverson T. Briley). At age 72 Hardy Sellers married his second wife Lavinia Gulledge, age 19. Two children were born to this second marriage, Hardy Huntley (married Mary Eliza Sinclair) and Zilpha Ann (married 1st- Dixon P. Gordan and 2nd William Jeptha Gaddy). To his credit, Pigg includes numerous transcriptions of documents related to this extensive family. The Revolutionary War pension application (R-9377) and will of Hardy Sellers, deeds from Philip Sellers to James Ratliff (1808) and the heirs of Elijah Sellers to Helton J. Sellers (1882), War of 1812 widow's pension application of Jane Baxter Sellers (widow of Rolen Sellers), and a multitude of obituaries are just a few of the verbatim transcriptions that are included in this family history. Surely whenever a list of "essential" Chesterfield genealogical titles is compiled, this book will be so noted. © 2002, 424 pages, soft cover, full name index.
