15 Years of the Darlington Flag Now on CD ROM at a Most Affordable Price

DARLINGTON FLAG, VOLUMES 1 - 15 (1989 - 2003) CD ROM, edited by John L. Andrews, Jr., CD ROM developed by E. Frank Melton. For fifteen years the Darlington Flag quarterly newsletter has been the official genealogical quarterly of the Old Darlington District Chapter, SCGS. This editor has endeavored over the years to publish previously unpublished primary source materials related to Darlington District, SC (and to a lesser extent Chesterfield District, SC) genealogy and history. A look back over these fifteen years reveals a wide variety of useful genealogical material. A small sample of this material includes: Muster Rolls from the French and Indian War, the War of 1812, Antebellum Militia, and the War Between the States, Colonial Inventories, Tax Records, Obituaries, Marriages, General Assembly Petitions, Church Membership Rolls, Unrecorded Deeds, Bastardy Records, Cemetery Surveys, Family Bibles, Commissioners of the Poor Records, Slave Inventories, Coroner's Inquests, State Census Records, and Minutes of the Court of General Sessions. Now for the first time all of these back issues of the Darlington Flag are available on CD ROM. Each page from each issue of the past fifteen years is included on this CD ROM. The information is in Adobe format and the quality is, in this writer's opinion, better than the original newsletters. For your convenience the Adobe Reader 6.0 install program is included on this CD. Each volume is completely searchable by any word by the Adobe Reader search function. Click the search icon (binocular) on the tool bar; type a word or phase and Adobe Reader will search the entire document. Click one of the search results to view the page where the reference is found. Each reference may be printed and added to your files. After only a few minutes with the CD even the most veteran Darlington researcher can uncover previously hidden gems of information. This CD includes 1845 pages of information and 489 pages of index (a redundancy given the Adobe Reader search function). If the hardcopy editions of the Darlington Flag were purchased in their entirety, the cost would be $160. E. Frank Melton is to be commended for making this valuable resource accessible at such an economical price.  System requirements; Windows 98, 64 MB ram, 60 MB available hard-drive space, Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5, 6.0 or 6.1. © 2004, CD ROM. Price- $35.00 plus $4.00 shipping and handling. Order from Old Darlington District Chapter, SCGS, Post Office Box 175, Hartsville, SC 29551-0175.
